I popped up back in the pool scene about 3 years ago, Alot had changed while I was biz man, The internet was invented, Some guy named Shane blew into the picture, Rodney got gray hair(no disrepect if you see this Rocket). Some things stayed the same, Jays hair line, JA still beating the world to death, Efren scratching his head.

The first year I was back I was recovering from 5 back operations(most recent was about 18 months ago) So the first year I played good in spots and couldnt play period in other times. I somehow became "Fatboy" an old name I have had since 86, but I put myself for better or worse into the pool scene. Love me or hate me is one thing, but they all know me-and thats kinda fun, I enjoy people. So the first year back was good.

Second year back I had a cue picked out that I really play good with, I used 8-10 cues the first year, I finally settled on a cue that brings out the best in me. I didnt let the maker or some sentmental thought lead me to the cue. Gus is my all time favorite cue maker, I wish I could have settled on a Gus, Lord knows I tried to get a Gus that brought out the best in me. I was able to play almost as much pool as I wanted, so I put myself in spots with all strong players for a year, It helped me alot. I could have used that knowlege when I was 18. What didnt happen this past year is I didnt win very often, not because I didnt play good, I did. But beating guys like Max Eberly aint a bargain.

So now the "Pool Season" is starting up for me. I took the summer off, I played hard for 10 months then end of May 09 I started to play 1-3 times a week, I never let myself get out of stroke all summer, I didnt want to lose anytime when I started back up. I'm hitting the ball good.

This year I'm focusing on only 2 things getting into shape(my back is good enough I will be able to start the gym right after the US Open). My second goal this year is to learn to win. I had a high win % many years ago, this past year I got pounded by champion after champion. I have played a couple soft games this summer. My friend John Mortan(RudeDog) used to say "I got to find a way to win" when he was way behind in a set. And he almost awalys did figure out a way to win and dig himself out of that hole he was in. I need to learn that-THIS YEAR!!!

So thats it, getting fit and winning are my 2 main issues this year.

What are you doing?

plans

trying to figure out what to do with all my spare time after I quit this effing game !

I hope to be able to play more this year. This 1 day a week, for 2-3 hrs is for the birds:mad:

I would like to dedicate at least 4 days a week, 3-4 hrs a session, and play in as many tournaments as I can. I know if I get that kind of practice, and get my mental game in there, I can be in the money a few times.

I finally have a cue that is a true extension of me, now I just have to get good enough to be able to play with it!

I just love to play...I would also like to play as many AZ'ers as I can possibly play this year....to build some really kewl friendships!

Last tournament I played in was the One Pocket event DCC '08...went 3-4 round before losing and I hadnt played for 4 months prior to it. The last 21 months I played maybe 12 times until last Tuesday. Something clicked, I dunno what/why/how but Im not questioning fate. Today was day two of what I would like to concider hard practice, 3 solid hours of One Pocket with a well known "Monster".

Anyways, to answer the question "what are you doing?", Im getting fired up for the DCC '10. Hopefully I can overcome some burdens I brought upon myself and prove to "me" I can play. My goals are simple, win or lose not to give up, not to sell out and make my opponent earn every shot. The days of run-n-gun have been over for me {9-10Ball} since I found my nitch and now I have to get busy!!!

Voo~~~wants to make a believer out of "ME"...

I play 3 to 4 times a week between 3 to 6 hours a day. After being away from the table for over 2 years do to my health I finally got back to the table with hepl of freinds takeing me out in my wheelchair, after I wasn't stuck in a hospital bed anymore and doctors said I needed exercise. So a couple good freinds would drag me out load my a$$ and wheelchair up and off we would go. With in that time I learned all my basics back and finished last year in two leagues in different counties with around a 700 average with 52 wins out of 70 games played in one county and and 48 wins out of 69 games played in the other. That was great for being have to learn all I knew before I got sick and being on life support for months. my goal is to beat my averages in both leagues this comeing year and just hope to keep being able to play even if things dont go as well this year I just want to be able to keep playing. So I guess this is my plan <<< thanks ED

What are you doing?

I have kinda been stuck in the same routine for around 5 years, as most know I own and operate a Pool Room, that includes a retail sales area, and a cue repair / cue building shop. While I do have the opportunity to play, I seem to have lost the killer instinct that I once had, and I can not put my finger on the reason why. I have gotten to point after a lay off of 23 years where I can make balls, play shape, and run out consistently, however, I just do not have the desire to win like I once did.

I think maybe I need to start gambling again, maybe this will bring back the desire to win I once had. I think this year I will step up and put myself back into some action, I have always believed that there is no better way to improve your game. Don't know if it will work, but I have a to give it a try, all I can do is lose a little money and I can always make more of that.:)

Great thread Fatboy!!!

What are you doing?

My plan is to spend less time talking and reading about pool and more time playing it.

I haven't had much free time lately so I rarely get to play but after 20+ years of playing I still enjoy it almost as much as anything. A strange thing happened a couple of weekends ago that made me realize this. The strange thing was.....

I had a free night. :)

After a full days work I went over to my buddies house to play some races on the table in his garage. We played 8-ball races to 5 and kept track on the counters on his old brunswick. When the smoke cleared (the sun started coming up) we had played 16 races (many hill-hill) and 12 hours had passed. It was then that I realized that we had not stopped for anything. No food, no drinks, no breaks. We were dead tired and wanted to play more. I really can't think of anything else I could do non-stop for 12 hours and not get bored or tired of it.

I also plan on taking more lessons from world class players if I get the chance.

P.S. Is there going to be another Fatboy Challenge?

Seems like I'm always trying to get back in stroke, after laying off for months. I get to playing pretty good and then I quit. I've probably played my way back into stroke fifty times in my life. It takes me about two weeks of intense play.

My priorities now are all about writing and television projects. Pool related naturally. My poor old Diamond table is collecting dust. I want to play at DCC again, but I know I need table time and don't know when that is possible. I seem to be getting progressively worse at DCC every year. Lack of practice is very telling!

I wish I had a goal or a plan but at this stage I just don't. I need to get out of the house more... that I know. But as to the specifics... that I havn't figured out.

My dog is 17 or 18 years old and he wakes me up every morning about 4 am begging to go out. This makes it a bit difficult to do anything in the evening.. like go to the ph. I get home from work and I'm done for the day and am in bed by 8:30 or so. Playing pool just dont' happen with that kind of schedule.

My pool playing gets done about 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning when I practice for about an hour before going to the office. At least I'm staying loose and probably improving a llittle but I don't see me getting out much as long as my little buddy is with me. When he passes.... well, I need.. I mean I NEED the sweetness in my life that comes from being with a dog, so... pool played in the ph may not be in my future. I have nothing to prove at 66 yrs old so the competitive juices are not flowing. I don't care who I can beat and who I can't, I just like practicing. Speaking of which... It's about that time.

Sounds like Heaven, JimS! Enjoy it for us!

My plan? I like competition and putting the screws to opponents. I don't feel that this is something I can do when I am not playing 10+ hours a week and at this point in my life, that ain't happening. Result is, I see my forum hours continuing to be the large majority of my 'pool time'.

My game plan is to try and stay healthy for the coming year. I'm going to map out a drill schedule and stick to it this time. Cut my pool playing down to no more than four hours a day in three sessions. Try for more quality practice and fewer hours on the table. Finish the three books I started but never finished. Make at least one tournament a month. Play in all the Tony Cosby KF Tournaments within fifty-miles from home.

Tell my wife of 43 years that I love her more often…never mind wrong forum for that. Johnnyt

I really don't have pool goals. The action doesn't much interest me anymore, I like the competition of big tourneys. The amount I play has gone down dramatically in the last month. Probably haven't hit a ball on a big table in 3 weeks. If I had to pick a goal I'll keep it simple and say "miss less", that's what I want for this year.

Good post!

After a year of busy, Im finally able to get to the table at least once or twice a week for 4 hours or so. My daughter is 1, so I like spending time with her and my wife, but I love being on the table. My game was pretty stagnate for years, maybe even going down a bit. But focusing on productive table time, Im finally back on track.

The next year, I hope to jump a level and get out and gamble more. Put pressure on myself and learn from mistakes the hard way.

I have very high hopes for the next year for my game, my career, losing weight and my quest to doing something great for the pool world. All of which are looking promising.

Right now, Im looking forward to going to the US Open.

I want to learn how to draw my ball.

Besides that, I would like to take a few more road trips with my pool buddies.
